Headline: Deadly Fire in Cedar Glen Neighborhood
Deadly fire reported at apartment building in the Cedar Glen neighborhood of the city. One man was pronounced DOA at St. Mary’s Hospital and a woman who is in critical condition with first-degree burns over 70% of her body. The two young girls ages 6, and 8 are being treated for smoke inhalation but are expected to survive.
It occurred in the early morning and was spotted by a neighbor, who made the 911 call. Firefighters arrived at the scene 5 minutes after the call was made and the blaze was so large it took firefighters 30 minutes to extinguish it. I spoke with Deputy Fire Marshall Larry Johnson, who said the children were rescued first but because the parents’ bedroom was in the rear, it made it very difficult for firemen to reach them in time.
He also told me that the home does have extensive damage but the neighboring homes only have minor damage.
